GSoC for Ryzom Core
Information For Students
What Is Ryzom Core
I know there are a number of places already on our site that talk about what this project is and is not. In the simplest terms Ryzom Core is a complete MMORPG platform. It comes with fully functional tools, services, client and more. It provides all of the base functionality needed to create a sandbox MMORPG and provides a powerful data-driven means of expanding the game world.
Ryzom Core, simply put, is a platform for the creation of new and exciting worlds.
Why Participate
If you're reading this page you may not be asking yourself this question. Just in case you are though there are a number of reasons to participate in Google Summer of Code, not the least of which is that Google pays you USD$5000 for completing your project. You get valuable experience working on a large, complex open-source project. You get to exercise your programming skills and experiment with practical application of the theory you're learning in college. You may be able to use it towards your thesis. But most of all you get to work on the driving force behind a large MMORPG and the first open-source MMORPG framework.
Before You Begin
Before you apply we encourage you to look at our list of ideas and see if anything here is something you're interested in. It's crucial to your success that you choose and create a project proposal based on work that you'll be motivated by and that you will find interesting. Our list of ideas is merely a collection of suggestions which you could take on or morph into something more suitable for your own needs.
We also encourage you to contact us through our IRC channel on irc.freenode.net / #ryzom. It's helpful for both you and the rest of the community if you get to know us and we get to know you. We hope to be working closely with you! Working with the community and the organizational administrators will also help you create a good, detailed project proposal and increase your chances of being selected.
How To Apply
First you will need a Google Account and then you will need to log in to Melange and create a profile. To create a profile click on the "create profile" link on the left. The Link ID is a short, unique name used to link your profile throughout the application.
You will not be able to do anything with the site until the March 28th Student Application Period.
In the mean time you will need to consider your project proposal and your application.
Writing a Project Proposal
We've put together a brief document on writing the project proposal portion of your application. What we say isn't the final word, just some hints on writing a good proposal with decent changes of being accepted. You can read our tips here.
