Official Ryzom Client for GNU/Linux

This page explains how to install and play Ryzom, the game, under GNU/Linux in native.

Ryzom is the first commercial MMORPG to be completely under free software (client, server, tools source code, 3d, textures assets...). You can read the Press Release for more information.

To make it easier to play Ryzom on Linux, we packed a version with the pre-compiled client binary and data that works on all recent Linux distro. Of course, you can download the source code and compile it by yourself following these instructions.

The current archive uses the revision 1122 of the repository.

GUI Installation

  • Right-click on the archive and select "Extract Here"

  • (optional) Move the "ryzom" directory somewhere else on your computer
  • Go inside the "ryzom" directory
  • Option 1: Add Ryzom in the "Applications->Games" menu
    • Double click on "ryzom_install_desktop_menu.sh" and click on "Run"
    • Start Ryzom using the "Applications->Games->Ryzom" or by double clicking on "Ryzom" icon in the ryzom directory.
  • Option 2: No menu installation
    • Double click on "ryzom_client" and click on "Run"

Fast Installation with a Terminal

  • Create a Ryzom Game account (Free (as free beer), 60s sign up process)
  • Be sure you have 7zr and wget installed (or install it: sudo apt-get install p7zip wget)
  • Open a Terminal and copy paste:
wget https://sourceforge.net/projects/ryzom/files/ryzom_client.7z
7zr x ryzom_client.7z
cd ryzom
./ryzom_client

Update Ryzom

To get the latest version of Ryzom for Linux, double click on "ryzom_update.sh" and click on "Run in Terminal". It'll sync your ryzom directory with the official one. You can also use this script if some file are broken or missing in the ryzom directory.

  • Ubuntu 10.04 LTS/Lucid Lynx - 32 & 64 bits
  • Ubuntu 08.04 LTS/Hardy Heron
  • Kubuntu 10.04 LTS - 64 bits
  • Debian Squeeze/Sid
  • OpenSUSE 11.2 - 32 bits
  • Fedora 13 - 32 bits
  • Mandriva Linux Spring 2010 - 64 bits

And for the following with only Ryzom static version installed without any installed/upgrade system:

  • Sabayon 5.1 live DVD (Gnome Desktop version) - 64 bits
  • PCLinuxOS 2010.11 live CD (Enlightenment Desktop version) - 32 bits
  • Elive 2.0 Topaz live CD (with "nvidia-new" driver) - 32 bits
  • Mandriva One 2010 Spring Live CD (Gnome Desktop version) - 32 bits
  • OpenSUSE 11.3 Live CD (after 3d effect activation in Yast) - 32 bits

Uninstalling Ryzom

  • If you have added Ryzom in the Applications menu, double click on "ryzom_uninstall_desktop_menu.sh" and click "Run"
  • Delete the ryzom directory

Known issues (not caused by ryzom)

NVidia driver AND Ryzom crash (during resize)

Required (or similar) conditions:

  • Kernel: 2.6.35(64bit)
  • NVidia drivers: 260.19.29
  • GeForce 8800 GT

Steps to reproduce:

  • Resize Ryzom window

Solution:

  • Update to NVidia drivers 270.18(at time of writing beta) (similar versions might also work)
